WALK AROUND THE MEDIEVAL CITY OF SAINT EMILION
Walk duration: 1 day
Walking distance: around 12 kms
Dates: on request, for groups of 4 persons and more
Fare: quotation depending on the number of attendees
Saint-Emilion, a medieval city built from the Xth century at the top of a limestone plateau and surrounded with a 5 400 Ha vineyard, is an ideal stroll place for those who like old buildings and prestigious wine estates.
This walk, starting from the Saint-Emilion railway station, will allow you to discover all the different aspects of the famous plateau: the slopes exposing vines and castles to the southern sun, the plateau itself with its worldwide famous growths (Ausone, Canon, Beauséjour-Bécot...), the vine plots enclosed by dry stone walls...
All day long, you will enjoy astonishing views on the city itself: the belltower raising over the vine rows, houses stretching down the coomb to the Dordogne valley...
Taking trails forgotten by the tourists, you will appreciate over the day the climatic mildness, the quietness of a vine sea, the beauty of some buildings...without forgetting the local specialty: the red wines that you will taste during our two estate visits.
Associated with the historical, cultural and architectural wealth of the place, these enabled Saint-Emilion to be listed in 1999 by UNESCO as World Heritage site.
This trek is formed by two 6-km loops, and one or the other can therefore be used as a half-day walk.
